In The Depths of Despair

Did you know that Jesus is ALWAYS there... even in the deepest, darkest, depth of despair? There was a time not long ago that I felt that way. I felt as though my life was coming to a crashing halt. I felt abandoned and afraid. I felt utterly hopeless.

I cried out to the Lord that night... through the anger and the tears, "Jesus, I need you! I need to know that you are there and that you hear me! Show me that you are there!"

I tried to busy myself with housework that night. Walking back and forth from the laundry room, I heard a noise. It was the computer. It was playing music - which was funny, because the speakers were previously NOT WORKING. The music was playing on the computer WITH NO OPEN PROGRAM. Over and over again, "His Eye is on the Sparrow" song was on. I don't know if any of you have heard that song, but these are the words, below. I can't think of a more perfect song I needed to hear during that moment in time, but God knew.

Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

"Let not your heart be troubled," His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

I sing because I'm happy,
I sing because I'm free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
